How to give a proper Head Massage?
While most of the massage therapists usually massage muscles from the neck down, they tend to ignore the head of their client. However, a basic massage can work wonders for your massage therapy, as it is a great way to relax the mind as well as the body. A massage is not that difficult to give, and one can follow some simple steps for performing a proper and relaxing head massage.
Start by warming it up
One should first wash their hands properly with soap before they start with the massage. Place a warm towel by dampening it and then heating it in the microwave. Then wrap it around the head of the client for at least 10 to 15 minutes. This will help in relaxing as wet heat releases all kinds of stress.
Another thing to remember is, detangle the hair softly with a brush or your fingers will also serve the purpose. Then use massage oils or kitchen oil to massage it into the scalp with your fingers and thumbs. One can start will little amount of oil and gradually add on if necessary.
Perform a basic head massage
The most important thing to remember while performing a head massage is that the client wants to feel relaxed with it. As a result, the motion of your fingers should be in constant circles and the strokes should be very gentle, as any hard motion or fast movements will jolt the client out from the relaxes state of mind and body.
Try to work in constant circles. With the help of your fingertips and thumbs, make small circular motions and calmly massage the head as well as the neck of the client. You can go over the head as many times you want but a couple of times are sufficient. Go from front to back and then back to front again as this is a very relaxing motion.
You should also massage the neck along with the head. Go up and down the neck with constant pressure, and instead of rubbing the skin on the neck according to regular massaging, move the skin up and down when you perform a massage on the neck. You can also do this at the area of the neck where the hair starts.
